The Lens of Biography: Project-Based Research Reports
The fifth grade explored the genre of biography and read incredible accounts of trailblazers, legends, innovators, and creators. We enjoyed creating focused project-based displays to showcase our learning and to teach and engage readers about our person of interest.
Throughout this unit we explored:
How do we study texts closely to gather information?
How do we read informational texts and reflect on our reading so we can collect information?
How do we evaluate the information we have already collected and make plans for additional research?
How do we develop our topic with facts, definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples related to the topic?
How can we organize our research to best present the information to our audience?
How do we use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to inform about or explain the topic?

ALL ABOUT ME ESSAYS
Class 5-206 is amazing in so many ways! 😍 For our very first writing task 📄 as fifth graders we showed off our fantastic paragraph writing skills. After reviewing the key elements of all strong 💪 paragraphs, we rose 🌹 to the challenge and organized concise paragraphs that were sure to include a topic sentence, multiple details, and a closing sentence. For this first piece, we used our stupendous editing skills to focus in on capital letters. We created and used our MINTS chart to help ourselves seek out the places those capital letters belong.
